ONE QUESTION AT A TIME

One question on the screen

People answer step by step and submit more often. One question on the screen, not a long form.

Short answer

What a one-question-at-a-time form is

This is a way to show the form: one question on the screen, the next one after the answer. The person does not see a long questionnaire and more often reaches the end. No separate service is needed: it is a setting of the same FormDesigner form.

How it works

How it feels for the person filling it

  1. One step, one answer

The respondent sees a field or section, answers, and moves on. No long form to scroll.

  2. The form sets the pace

After a list choice, the next step can follow right away. Enter on a one-line field does the same.

  3. Pause and come back

The draft lives in the respondent’s browser. It is not a submission in your account.

What it can do

What the person on the form gets

Display

One field or section

Only the current step is on screen. A section is shown in full so related fields stay together.

Pace

Auto-advance

Pick a list choice and the form moves on. If they need a second look, auto-advance can be turned off.

Input

Enter: next

On a one-line field Enter goes to the next step. While there are questions the button is Next; on the last step it is Submit.

Progress

Step indicator

The person sees how much is left. Tabs and the page list do not get in the way on the published form.

Chapters

Pages as chapters

A multi-page form is not flattened into one scroll. First a chapter, then conditions pick the next.

Draft

Draft in the browser

Progress stays on the respondent’s device. Close the tab, open it again, answers are there. This is not a server-side submission.

Design

Design and brand

  • Themes Customize different form themes to match your website design
  • Your own CSS You can add your own CSS and match the form to the site.
  • Subdomain The form opens on a direct link at your subdomain.
CLEAR ANSWERS

Questions about this mode

How the one-question view works before you turn it on.

People abandon long forms. Will this help?
Yes. One step on the screen, not a wall of fields. It is easier to answer and submit. In the builder, every field on the page stays on one screen so you can edit them.
Is this an AI chat?
No. This is not a chat with a model. One field or section is on screen; the field list in the builder does not change. AI assistant This is a different tool: it helps create a form from a task description.
Does the mode work on a single-page form?
Yes. Pages are not required. On the published form tabs and the page list are hidden, and progress is counted by visible steps.
What happens to pages and branching?
Pages stay chapters: the respondent goes through the current one question at a time, then the same conditions pick the next. The diagram stays on. Logic and branching.
What does it look like while I am building the form?
In the builder, every field on the page stays on screen so you can edit. One question per screen is what people see on the published form and in preview with the editor off.
Is the draft a submission in the account?
No. The draft is written to the respondent’s device and restored on return. There is no submission in stats yet.
The form jumps ahead on its own. Is that required?
No. Auto-advance after a list choice and Enter on a one-line field can be turned off. Then the person taps Next themselves.
Can pages be shuffled in this mode?
Yes, if there is no page-to-page diagram. You can pin the intro and contacts first and last, and keep questions in the deck.
