Secure online forms with data encryption
Build forms that collect personal data and keep the answers private. FormDesigner encrypts responses with your key, keeps bots out with a captcha and a password, and works over HTTPS. No code, and it works on any site and CMS.
How form encryption works
Keep the private key safe: if you lose it, there is no way to restore it, and the data stays encrypted.
-
Turn encryption on
Open the settings of the form and find the “Form encryption” section. Turn encryption on and confirm that you are the owner with your account password.
-
Save the private key
Create a pair of keys, download the private key and store it safely, or upload your own public key.
-
Read the answers in Statistics
The answers are stored encrypted. To read them, open the “Statistics” tab and select your private key file.
What protects your forms
Encrypted answers
Turn on encryption for a form, and every response is encrypted before it is stored on our servers. Only you can read it, with your private encryption key. You can let FormDesigner create the keys, or generate your own key pair and upload only the public key.
HTTPS connection
Forms work over HTTPS, so the data is protected on its way from the visitor to the server.
Spam protection
Choose an invisible captcha, a math captcha or Google reCAPTCHA to keep bots away from your form, and pick the one that is least annoying for your visitors.
Password access
If a form is meant only for certain people, protect it with a password. Visitors will see the form only after they enter it.
Limits on repeat submissions
Limit how often the same visitor can send a form. It helps against duplicates and against someone flooding you with requests.
Social lock
The form opens only after a sign-in through a social network. A casual visitor does not see it.
Which forms to encrypt
Medical forms
Forms that collect data you would not want to leak.
Questionnaires and requests
Job applications and resumes, and legal or financial requests.
Ordinary contact form
For an ordinary contact form encryption is usually not needed.
What changes when encryption is on
An encrypted answer cannot be processed by the service, so some functions switch off. The full list is in the instructions, so you know the trade-offs before you turn encryption on.
